Tools & Data

Several open-source tools have been developed in the context of the open_eGo and eGon projects, forming a coherent toolchain that now serves as the foundation for reGon.

Our energy system and grid models are built with eGon-data and ding0. For grid analysis and planning, we use the modular tools eTraGo (transmission grid) and eDisGo (distribution grid). Both are based on PyPSA. These can be applied independently or combined within the inter-grid-level planning tool eGo, which enables the investigation of viable grid expansion scenarios.

The input data, models, and results from these tools are published as open data on the Open Energy Platform (OEP) and in our WebApp, while the tools themselves are openly available on GitHub.

Our Tools

 Logo

Optimising energy dispatch, asset and grid expansion, and flexibility use across Germany’s high and extra-high voltage levels.

eGo

 Logo

Enabling the system-wide optimisation of flexibility options and grid expansion by linking transmission grid planning of eTraGo with distribution grid planning of eDisGo.

 Logo

Determining flexibility time series for grid-beneficial operation and assessing reinforcement needs in medium- and low-voltage grids.

 Logo

Generating open-data-based grid models for medium- and low-voltage networks across Germany, which are used in eDisGo.

 Logo

Generating an open-data-based energy system model, providing grid analysis tools with data at the right scope, resolution, and format for eGo, eTraGo and eDisGo.

Our Data

WebApp

Our WebApp provides an easy and illustrative access to our results from the project eGon. The results from reGon will be added as the project progresses.
